Saturday and we are at BS Guernsey for Height Jumping but in the airport arena on the grass for the first time this year and its looking really good. Weather is also holding up and although a little overcast the sun is occasionally breaking through.
In addition to the seven fences for the two classes of clear jumping that preceded the Height Jumping, over a total of ten fences, we have the puissance wall in the arena to give those jumping in Jersey at the start of May a chance to practice. Not part of the course so not faultable, which should mean most will give it a go.
Although seven to ten fences, plus the wall, many were jumping away, which meant that the photographic choice was limited and I focused on fence two (above). Having said that the background was clutter free and I was able to shoot between the fence rails for the first few classes, which always looks a better, more ‘impressive’ angle for photographs.
I did have to relocate for the wall but thankfully it to was ideally placed; close to and parallel to the arena edge. Initially there were fifty eight rounds scheduled in total but several riders dropped out and the jumping was finished shortly after midday. Just as well as rain was forecast for later in the day.
Late morning there was a slight change in the photography as I was able to photograph the Guernsey Senior Team heading off to Jersey to compete in their annual Horse of the Year Show.
Obviously we wish the Senior Team, Sarah Jackson (C) on Follyfoot Arkadia, Amy Parnwell on Company Business, Ellie Saunders on Loopy Lou II and Lani Ashwell-Wall on Chester XII, as well as our Juniors, who will be competing as part of a visitors team, Georgia Rihoy on Rose Queenall and Zac Rihoy on LV Johnny Cash and all the other local riders going, all the best.
